The door slowly creaked behind her as Canyon made her way into the Shack. She ducked under a massive cobweb and rubbed the end of her nose, as the dust from underneath her feet began to reach her nose. She fixed the collar of her worn jacket as she let her eyes adjust to the darkness that was the inside of the shack. She knew that not many came here, from the looks of the fading footprints on the floor etched in the dust, they haven’t been here for long.
Canyon slowly made her way deeper inside. She had heard rumors that some rouge were half-breeds had taken refuge here while attending school. She couldn’t really blame them. Having to suffer punishment by your own house mates was harsh. She was lucky, being born a riddle, didn’t really hurt. It just meant that not many dared to touch her cause they feared what she knew.
The sound of padded feet caused her to smirk as she glanced over her shoulder to see a pair of glowing golden eyes glancing up at her from the dark shadows. “Where you been?” she asked, not even turning around, as she kept on going. For days at a time she would loose track of him, but then he always seemed to come running back when he was lonely for her company. He was better than a boy friend at times.
A low growl was the only remark she got back from him, as she kept moving. She stopped at the bottom of the steps and turned to face the black wolf behind her. “Don’t you dare give me lip,” she tossed out, as she pulled her wand out. The wolf simply rolled his eyes before going to lay down not but a few feet from her. “Yeah, yeah, I know, wand ooh scary.” She then chuckled as she spun the wand around on the heal of her palm. “But what can a girl do to keep from hexing everyone in that school.” She let out a growl herself as she plopped down on the bottom steps. In truth, Canyon was bored. Keres only seemed to wanted to do stuff by herself as of late, and she dared not try to contact her mother or any of the other Riddle bastards out there. So for the moment she was alone. She shot a glance at the wolf next to her. Well maybe not that much alone.
A sound sounded above them, causing the wolf to jump out baring it’s teeth. Canyon shot it a look before getting to her feet. She slowly dusted off her clothing and rubbed the back of her neck. It was probably some new years that were too stupid not to stay away from this place. The sound came again and she let out a sigh. It was her place to go give them a good lecture.
She headed up the steps, two at a time only to freeze at the top of the stairs. There in front of her sat one young girl, maybe eleven if that, and in front of her laid a bloody mess. From what Canyon got, it was a body of some sort. She kept her wand down at her side as she moved up toward the girl’s side. She shot her a look as she knelt down next to what was left of the body. “What happened here?” she asked the girl, not even glancing up from her examination of the body. When she didn’t answer her, Canyon’s eyes shot to her face. “Tell me!”
Canyon watched as the girl’s completion turned as white as snow. “He jumped out and scared me!” the girl wailed. “And I just hexed him.”
“Just hexed him?” Canyon threw back. “The boy is no longer a boy.” She got to her feet and went to make a grab for the girl’s arm. The wolf let out a growl in warning as the girl turned on her with her wand. “Oh, no you don’t.” She knocked the wand aside. “Don’t you ever point a wand at me again, or you’ll end up stuck to some random place forever.” She grabbed a hold of the girl’s arm. “Now tell me what really happened!”
A cruel chuckled sounded from the girl causing Canyon to roll her eyes. “He came thinking he was gonna get some,” she started as she glanced up at Canyon. “So I hexed off the parts he won’t ever need.” She shot the boy a look. “She’s gonna be such a pretty girl.”
“Enough!” Canyon snapped, causing the girl to glance up at her. “That is evil.”
“Says you,” the girl scoffed. “You’re a Riddle you’re not supposed to care about anybody but Riddles.”
“Is that so?” Canyon replied as she flicked her wand into the girl’s face. “How about I show you just how compassionate I really can be?” The wolf let out a growl as a noise came from behind her. Canyon let out a sigh, as she flicked her wand a few inches and muttered a single world. “Lumos!” The room lit up as the spell worked. “It’s not nice to sneak up on people. You should know that by now.”
